What will your suffix be?

Through browsing the internet today, I ran across a very exciting article. Icann has decided to relax the rules on top-level domains. Which means, our domain names don’t have to follow the regular .com, .net, .org nothingness. Which also means that we can get domain names like bennie.mosher. You can use anything for the suffix of your domain. This is going to be nice, but in the end could turn out bad.

What if extensions become the suffix of the domain? What if someone uses name.exe? Is that going to launch an application? This is untold from the basic news article that I have read.

Not only will it get confusing, but there could be domain name bidding wars that pop up. What’s going to be next? Are our crimes going to start revolving around who has what domain? Will this bring forth the evil side of all web geeks? Will web geeks start wearing headbands and start to claim they are from .blog? Whats next? Let me know what you think of all this. New doors open!

Doors have opened once again for great opportunities. I have met a outstanding couple of gentlemen, who are starting their own web development team. I have kindly been asked to jump on the wagon and help them out. The company will be called Website Ninjas – Custom Web Solutions. The website will be under going some heavy construction as I redo everything. We are also going to have an illustrator draw out some ninjas for us, to use such as a mascot. Things are really starting to shape up and I am so excited. Designing will be my main part of the business, as well as coding out the good old HTML/CSS. I am also picking up Ruby on Rails, and will be in charge of all Ruby on Rails projects. Things are going to go well and we are all excited! Stay tune for updates on the projects.

Google apps for you?

So, yesterday I was freaking out because I could not get my domains to work on my slice. I was trying everything possible that I could. I logged into the Slicehost forum and posted a request for help. Within a half hour a kind young gentleman, IMed me and asked if I still needed assistance. We opened up iChat and began to screen share.

After about a half hour of troubleshooting, we decided we needed to reinstall the whole slice. We backed everything up, and my new best buddy began to work while I watched.

I had to run home from work, and couldn’t be on the laptop for awhile, but I soon got some alarming emails. One of them was stating that I had signed up for Google Apps? Umm, I didn’t. My buddy had installed these Google apps that I wasn’t even aware of. Now my domain has email and everything, and the best part is it’s free.

Now, when you go to http://mail.benniemosher.com, it looks like you are logging right into GMail. Wait a minute, thats not GMail, that’s Bennie Mosher Mail!

They are so many other cool apps that you get with this as well, such as Google Documents, Google Calendar, Google Talk and others! You get the privacy of your own domain, but the power of Google all in one! Thank you my friend, you have made me one happy camper!

Firefox 3 is now out!

So, today is the new release of Firefox 3! Mozilla is trying to break a Guiness World Record for 5 million downloads in one day. I wonder if they can beat it or not.

The download wasn’t actually released until 1PM EST. Which makes no sense. Why would you be trying to beat a world record and than not release it until 13 hours have passed in the particular day? Doesn’t make sense, but I am sure that they will still make it. Mozilla Firefox is probably the best browser that is out there, and there are alot of individuals that will agree with me. They allow you to write and have plug-ins to have a browser that does everything you need it to.

The only thing I am disappointed about is the fact plug-in yet. I will be looking for this update, since I use firebug for half of my problems at work. Firebug fixes all kinds of problems.
